The Haredi Campus

About the Haredi campus

The Academic Center Carmel is an institution of higher education that emphasizes the potential of every student while pursuing academic excellence for the entire population of northern Israel. The goal of the Academic Center Carmel is to provide its graduates with a wide range of academic and social skills so they may assume leadership positions throughout the Israeli society and in northern Israel in particular.

The faculty has an international reputation which guarantees cutting edge knowledge and practice.

In order to assist the members of the Haredi community who are interested in acquiring an academic degree before joining the workforce, we have decided to establish a Haredi campus in the Academic Center Carmel.

In order to establish the campus and to allow the members of the Haredi community to attend in the form they need, we have made a complete separation between men and women – keeping the nature and environment of the campus tuned for the Haredi community.

We anticipate that the new campus will fulfill the needs of the Haredi community and provide the Haredi students with a stimulating academic environment that respects the Haredi lifestyle and tradition.

Sincerely,

Professor Yehezkel Taler

President of the Academic Center Carmel

The process:

As members of the Haredi community aspire to enter the workforce, they find their efforts stymied by lack of academic degrees. Exposed to academic programs over the past decade, the Haredi community is growing increasingly aware of the benefits of a higher education and is slowly overcoming the obstacles that prevent its integration in the job market.

The vision

Professor Yehezkel Taler, a man of vision and action, is one of the first to provide a platform of serious academic studies while respecting the special characteristics of the Haredi community. After establishing a successful Haredi program in the center of Israel, Professor Taler was appointed President of the Academic Center Carmel. As the president, he is working tirelessly to offer the Haredi community in northern Israel an opportunity to acquire the higher education and academic degrees necessary for its economic growth and security.

Success will come from the North

The administration of the Academic Center Carmel in Haifa has decided to establish a unique Haredi campus in the port area of Haifa where members of the Haredi community can study for academic degrees in business administration and law in an environment suitable to their life style and values, where men and women study apart from one another.

Pre-academic studies centers have been established on campus in order to provide Haredi students with proficiency in a wide range of subjects at the level necessary to undertake a regular academic course of study. Pre-academic studies will help students master the material that was not taught in the Haredi education system.

The Haredi men/ the women

The Haredi campus allows Haredi men and women to acquire a profession which will help them support themselves and their families in a respectable fashion and in a way that preserves their unique style of life. Assisted by the degree they acquire from the Academic Center Carmel, Haredi men can find employment in fields that show respect for those who have spent their lives in study of Torah. Likewise, the Haredi campus allows women to choose a prestigious profession in business or law that will allow them to provide a second income for their family or significantly increase the primary income among those women whose spouses continue to study Torah.

Recognition

Since the Academic Center Carmel has advertised the opening of the Haredi campus, hundreds of members of the Haredi community have decided to join the students' population and to study business management and law.

Upon the decision to open the Haredi campus, rabbis from northern Israel blessed the heads of the Academic Center Carmel for their initiative and gave their full approval. These rabbis also offered advice regarding setting up the program while showing support and encouragement along the way.

The Haredi campus of the Academic Center Carmel offers an academic degree in law (LLB) and in business management (BA) with specializations in accounting, finance and banking, marketing and advertising, and management of human resources.

Promising future

In the near future, the Academic Center Carmel hopes that hundreds of members of the Haredi community will join the workforce as C.E.O's, accountants, advertising executives, bankers economists, and lawyers. In doing so, they will significantly contribute to the Israeli economy and achieve the social recognition they deserve.
